Botanical Interests Clary Sage

Biennial. Produces foliage the first year, flowers the second. Blooms summer to early fall. 2.5’ to 3.5’ tall. This spectacular plant has fountains of tall 3’ flower stems. The pale lilac 1” long tubular flowers have very prominent rose-red bracts. This beautiful plant has a pleasant balsam-like fragrance and has many herbal uses. The leaves can be used like regular sage in cooking or to make sachets and potpurri. Please not that it absolutely requires well-drained soil. When to plant outside: Sow directly outside in spring, after average last frost. When to sow inside: Not recommended. Special Germination Instructions: Seed germinates quicker when it receives some light. Press seeds into soil surface and keep moist.
