Product Description
Fresh home-grown celery has a crunchy sweet flavor that is far superior to the grocery store product. Tall Utah 52/70 Improved is taller and greener than the original variety. A better choice for short seasons than other varieties, it can be harvested at any stage. All celery grows best in climates with long, moderate temperature seasons, but can be grown in most places with proper technique. This variety does not require blanching. Celery is intolerant of high temperatures or prolonged temperatures below 55 degrees F. In the deep south, it grows best in winter. In southern/central California or the Pacific northwest, it can be grown during the long moderate summers. In the northern U.S., Midwest, and northernmost regions of the south, start seed indoors to transplant outside in spring. When to plant outside: With either seed or transplants, sow around the average last spring frost date. Only direct seed in climates with even, long, moderate temperatures. When to start inside: Recommended in hot summer areas and short seasons. 3 to 4 MONTHS before planting outside. Special Sowing and Germination Instructions: Seedlings are VERY small and may take up to 30 days to emerge. Keep soil evenly moist and be patient.
